I am a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Sports medicine, Arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) and joint preserving cartilage surgery. I have wide experience this field both international and in India. Currently I am attached to Nanavati hospital – Vileparle, Criticare Asia hospitals in Juhu and Andheri, Gurnanak hospital Kala Nagar, Bandra – East Upasani Superspeciality Hospital in Mulund as Consultant in Orthopaedic, Sport medicine and arthroscopy surgery Prior to that he was working with Dr. L. H Hiranandani Hospital as head of Sport Medicine Programme.

My Special Interests are Shoulder, Knee and Hip Arthrocopy and cartilage reconstruction. I have completed Fellowship in Sports Medicine from State University of New York (SUNY), at Buffalo (USA) which is the largest Sports medicine practice in Western New York. I had the privilege of taking care of professional American football team (NFL), The Buffalo Bills and Professional Ice Hockey (NHL) team “The Buffalo Sabres during his fellowship in 2011.

I got my ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair done by Dr Gawai 10 years back. He explained the details to me patiently and fully supported me throughout my rehab phase with constant check ins on the progress. 10 years hence I had another injury to the knee and the ACL repair still held up strong.

I came down from US post a partial tear of left Achillis tendon, the extent of which only got detected after MRI done by Dr. Gawai in Mumbai. Along with a heel raise with wedged boot, Dr. Gawai advised PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections at his center, which is a simple procedure but helps in better tendon healing. I would have been difficult and costlier to do it in the US as getting access to it could be a challenge here and thanks to the getting the procedure done during my short stay in Mumbai with Dr. Gawai, today possibly we were able to avoid surgery of the achillis tendon. 2-3 months after the procedure I am able to walk without any pain and without the supporting boot thanks to the advice and PRP injections by Dr. Gawai !
